You’re living your life, but then a job offer from Singapore completely changes everything.

Surprise!

You now need to relocate, and move to an entirely new country. If you’re the one with the job offer, you’ll need an Employment Pass to move to Singapore. But if you’re moving with a parent or your spouse, what you’ll need to get is a Dependant’s Pass in Singapore.

It’s a process that can get confusing, and we are here to give you all the information you need for your application.

What is the pass?

A Dependant Pass (DP) is a relocation visa needed by immediate family members of Employment Pass/S Pass/Work Visa holders in Singapore. This visa a long-term multiple-visit visa which can be used when travelling in and out of Singapore without any additional documents. Unfortunately, as the name suggests, this visa is only valid till the employment pass holder in your family has their job secured in Singapore.

Are you eligible to get a DP?

If you fulfil certain conditions, you can apply for a DP in Singapore.

  1. Spouses (legally presented) of Employment Pass/S Pass/Other work passes in Singapore who earn at least $6,000 SGD on a monthly basis.
  2. Unmarried children under 21 (legal or adopted) of Employment Pass/S Pass/Other work passes in Singapore who earn at least $6,000 SGD on a monthly basis.

Other requirements:

  1. If you work in Singapore and have a baby here, you will receive notification documents from the hospital which will help you register for a birth certificate. These documents will also act as a Special Pass allowing the baby to stay in Singapore for up to 6 weeks until their passport is applied for.
  2. If you are married but do not have legal documentation proving so, (marriage certificate) you will be allowed to apply for a Long-Term Social Visit Pass instead of a Dependant Pass.

If you fulfil the criteria above, you can go ahead and fill up your application for a DP and then pray that you get it in time!

What documents are required?

You will end up needing extra folders and hours to get all your documentation in order if you apply for a DP yourself. You will also have to pay extra attention to all details alongside the 100 suitcases you will be packing.

  1. A completed Dependant Pass Application Form
  2. A copy of the front and back of all passports (spouses, children)
  3. A copy of official marriage certificate (proof of relationship)
  4. A copy of official birth/adoption certificates (proof of relationship)
  5. Vaccination Certificates (COVID-19)
  6. Educational degrees/transcripts if needed
  7. School enrollment details for institutes in Singapore if needed
  8. Salary details/Offer letter
  9. Residential Address in Singapore if needed
  10. Local mobile number (working and contactable) in Singapore if needed
Remember:
  • If you are applying for the pass along with your children, you will all need to fill out separate forms to apply for the DP.
  • If your child is under 16, all their application forms must be signed by you.

What is the process?

You can either apply online or manually.

Apply online if you are the dependant of a(n): Employment Pass/S Pass holder

Apply manually if you are the dependant of a(n): Entre (entrepreneurship) Pass/Personalized Employment Pass holder)

After 3-5 weeks, if your application is approved, you will receive an In-Principal Approval (IPA) letter by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). You can use this letter to enter Singapore and ask for the issuance of your DP. After a stipulated time, you will be able to get your DP (pick-up/delivered), however, you will need to be in Singapore to collect it.

What happens if you get rejected?

Although a dependant pass is not difficult to get, your application can still be rejected for a multitude of reasons. Similar to the employment pass, there is a 3-month period in which an appeal can be made to the ministry of manpower. This can include sending additional documents and clarifications to help them make their decision. After this, the appeal can take a few weeks to get processed.

Applying for a visa can be extremely complicated and time consuming.

But we are here to make it easier for you.

From applying to appealing, at Doerscircle, we have a single solution for all the worries you may have during the dependant pass journey.
